Natalie hoped to find a treatment that would let her son Samuel be a kid, hemophilia A and all.
“Our dosing schedule is Saturdays. Samuel likes that he has more time for activities and hanging out with friends—he’s getting the most out of being a kid.”

Meet Natalie and Samuel

“Samuel was adopted from China when he was 4 and a half years old. When his dad and I first saw the pictures in his adoption file, he had a black eye and a goose egg on his head. The adoption agency suspected hemophilia, but he was never officially tested. When we traveled to China to meet Samuel, he was in a lot of pain and could barely walk. We arrived home to Ohio on a Friday. The following Monday, he was diagnosed with severe hemophilia A, and we got him started on a prophy treatment. That was a long 8-hour day, but it’s also how we met our hematologist—she’s wonderful.

As Samuel grew up, it became clear we needed a treatment that would protect him from bleeds and also allow him to stay busy. That’s why we were so interested when our hematologist told us about ALTUVIIIO and its fewer infusions. She shared that ALTUVIIIO is the only once-weekly prophylaxis Factor VIII replacement therapy. ALTUVIIIO’s higher factor levels were associated with lower bleed risk, and the once-weekly dosing would allow us to schedule our weeks around fewer infusion times.

We felt great about switching to ALTUVIIIO. Transitioning was also easy, especially with the assistance of our Case Manager and our CoRe (Community Resource and Education) Manager. Today, we are living with a treatment and schedule that works for us. Our dosing schedule is Saturdays. Samuel likes that he has more time for activities and hanging out with friends—he’s getting the most out of being a kid.”
