      Jenny:

I think about all the time how I'm raising a boy to become a man, and how my job is really to help him learn to be independent. And whether that means teaching him how to do his laundry, or how to scramble eggs, or to do his own infusions. I just think about, I want him to feel confident and comfortable going wherever he wants to go and living independently.

      Paxton:

I've always been competitive since second grade, and I love swimming, playing basketball, and cross country running. I really like shooting basketball in the yard with my friends.

      Steve:

When Paxton was born 14 years ago, we never thought he'd be able to do some of the things that he does today. He's way more active than we would have ever thought.

      Jenny:

Paxton received free product through Sanofi’s patient support services, and we are being compensated for sharing our story in this video.

In the beginning, we took a really moderate approach to his hemophilia A, and it just didn't work out for us. We were always living life in limbo. We would make plans, and then Paxton would get hurt, and so we'd have to go to the hospital and sit there all day long. It just always felt like we were waiting for the rug to get pulled out from underneath us. Our doctor explained that putting Paxton on a prophy treatment schedule might help to decrease the number of bleeds and help protect his joints from bleeds.

      Steve:

The medical advances that have come about over the last, you know, several years have been incredibly important for our family and really important for Paxton. For him to be able to live a relatively normal life is, it's been awesome. It's been fantastic.

      Jenny:

ALTUVIIIO’s higher factor levels were associated with a low risk of bleeding and the once-weekly dosing was appealing. We went over the side effects, and while I know that side effects are always something to consider there just really wasn't a whole lot of hesitation on our part.

      Paxton:

I don't really like changes, so I just like everything to be normal all the time, like it to be the same every time. So yeah, that was actually a really hard decision for me. But after the first two weeks, I was really loving it because it felt like such a big difference from twice a week to once a week.

      Steve:

What he had in his previous prophylactic treatment was fantastic. What we have seen already and with ALTUVIIIO, it's really encouraging for us as parents. The frequency has gone down. I mean, his [his] bleeding episodes, the occurrences, have decreased and we've been really pleased with that.

      Paxton:

ALTUVIIIO is different from the treatment I was on before because I only have to take it once a week instead of twice a week, and that's a big deal considering that changes my schedule a lot, and it lasts for way longer. I decided which day to do my infusion day by looking at when my practices would be the most and doing that right before all the practices start, so that I’ll have the highest levels.

      Steve:

When you compare ALTUVIIIO to those original treatment plans, he’s defied all of our expectations. Where Paxton is today, as a result of the medicine that he's been on, his previous prophylactic plan and then this current prophylactic plan, he's doing things that we never thought were possible.

      INDICATION

ALTUVIIIO [antihemophilic factor (recombinant), Fc-VWF-XTEN fusion protein-ehtl] is an injectable medicine that is used to control and reduce the number of bleeding episodes in people with hemophilia A (congenital Factor VIII deficiency).

Your healthcare provider may give you ALTUVIIIO when you have surgery.

      IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

What is the most important information I need to know about ALTUVIIIO?

Do not attempt to give yourself an injection unless you have been taught how by your healthcare provider or hemophilia center. You must carefully follow your healthcare provider’s instructions regarding the dose and schedule for injecting ALTUVIIIO so that your treatment will work best for you.

      Who should not use ALTUVIIIO?

You should not use ALTUVIIIO if you have had an allergic reaction to it in the past.

What should I tell my healthcare provider before using ALTUVIIIO?

Tell your healthcare provider if you have had any medical problems, take any medications, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, supplements, or herbal medicines, are breastfeeding, or are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

What are the possible side effects of ALTUVIIIO?

You can have an allergic reaction to ALTUVIIIO. Call your healthcare provider or emergency department right away if you have any of the following symptoms: difficulty breathing, chest tightness, swelling of the face, rash, or hives.

Your body can also make antibodies called “inhibitors” against ALTUVIIIO. This can stop ALTUVIIIO from working properly.

Your healthcare provider may give you blood tests to check for inhibitors.

The common side effects of ALTUVIIIO are headache and joint pain.

These are not the only possible side effects of ALTUVIIIO. Tell your healthcare provider about any side effect that bothers you or does not go away.

"Paxton is a hard-working eighth grader, a son, a brother, and a big basketball fan. He was diagnosed with hemophilia A immediately after his birth. Since then, I made it my goal to be a positive example for Paxton and to be his fiercest advocate through it all.

As he grew up and had more basketball practice and activities, keeping track of his infusion schedule became a sport in and of itself. We organized Paxton's prophylaxis treatment schedule so that his trough days would fall on "off days," or days when Paxton didn't have an activity. But as time went on, there were fewer and fewer of those days.

Eventually, we became interested in switching to ALTUVIIIO prophylaxis, as it is the only once-weekly prophylaxis Factor VIll replacement therapy.

We worked with Paxton's doctor over a period of a few months to make sure ALTUVIIIO was the right fit for him. Paxton was excited about keeping higher factor levels for longer periods, and fewer infusion days each week meant less time on the calendar and more time for me to drive him all over town for practices.

Today, Paxton and I are happy to share that his new dosing schedule with ALTUVIIIO is working well for him. We chose to infuse every Monday so that we don't have to worry all week about when to schedule "poke days. ”"
