Meet Jesus
“I grew up in an apartment complex behind a casino with the best backyard on the planet. It was always full of interesting people, and that shaped my whole life. I went to school for a business management degree and joined the casino industry after graduation. I did a little bit of everything before becoming a casino host for the high-stakes guests. It was a unique world, fast-paced, and lots of fun. But everything changed when I found out I was going to be a dad.
Becoming a father reshaped how I saw my life, my future, and my health. I realized those long, unpredictable casino hours would no longer work. I transitioned into helping companies manage employee benefits, which is meaningful to me, especially growing up with a serious, lifelong condition like hemophilia.
My hemophilia symptoms didn’t show up until I was around 5 years old, when I had a knee injury. My parents took me to several doctors, but no one knew what was going on. Over the next year, my mom started noticing additional symptoms: frequent nosebleeds, large bruises on my head and all over my body if I played too hard. When she mentioned it to my doctor, he suggested testing me for hemophilia. I was diagnosed with moderate hemophilia A when I was 6 years old.
It turns out there is a history of hemophilia in my family. My grandfather had it and passed it on to his 3 daughters, but my mother had no idea. She told me later that she felt a lot of guilt when she discovered how hemophilia is inherited.
My first treatment had me infusing 3 times a week. Later, I switched to a longer-lasting, twice-weekly prophy treatment, and I stayed on that for about 6 years. For me, infusion frequency mattered most, especially as I began managing hemophilia alongside my academic and professional career.
I first heard about ALTUVIIIO from people in the hemophilia community. At my next appointment, I asked my hematologist what she thought. She already had several patients on ALTUVIIIO and felt confident it would be a good fit for me—especially since I am active and need a less frequent dosing schedule. She walked me through how it works, including the risks and the most common side effects, which are headache and joint pain. ALTUVIIIO offered what I wanted in a treatment: fewer infusions, bleed protection, and a routine that was easier to keep up with. I started ALTUVIIIO in July 2025. I haven’t experienced any side effects from ALTUVIIIO, but every patient is different.
Today, the most important thing to me is being a present father and a healthy role model for my little girl, Valeria. She’s 2 years old now, at that age where every day is new and exciting, and as a new dad, that’s also true for me. I want to make sure I’m not sidelined with a bleed or scheduling our time around multiple weekly infusions.
I infuse every Saturday morning, and it’s a great routine for me. I usually golf once a week, and infusing first thing helps me enjoy my time off and prepare for the workweek ahead, knowing I’m getting the protection I want.”
