Meet Ashley and Harrison
Having 2 younger boys with hemophilia has definitely changed things in our household. We picked a house that had carpet all over for the extra cushioning, and we are always on alert because they're jumping off furniture still. I always say, “Liam taught me how to be a mom. Harrison taught me how to be a hemophilia mom, and Maverick taught me how to fight and advocate for them.”
With my second pregnancy, I ended up having an amniocentesis done and that’s when it was confirmed. My second was going to have severe hemophilia A. I remember having a binder getting sent home that said, “Raising a baby with hemophilia.” And they usually say, like, kids do not come with manuals—he did. Having 2 younger boys with hemophilia, I now have to advocate a lot more. You have to be knowledgeable about their treatment options; you have to know how to get them treated. We were treating Harrison prophylactically. He was having breakthrough bleeds, and we were having to supplement frequently with factor. We tried pretty much every treatment you could think of because I just wanted to give him the best life I could. And it wasn't until we went to a convention where I saw a presentation about ALTUVIIIO. I was just really excited to learn more about ALTUVIIIO and see if it was the right choice for Harrison. My doctor and I discussed the risks and benefits of ALTUVIIIO, and that’s when we just decided that it would be a great fit for Harrison. What we liked best about ALTUVIIIO was the longer half-life and the proven bleed protection with fewer infusions. Our doctor and I discussed the most common side effects, which are headache, joint pain, and fever.
We love the results with ALTUVIIIO. I love knowing that his body is a lot higher in factor for so many more days throughout the week than previously. Harrison has not had any breakthrough bleeding since starting ALTUVIIIO, which is pretty amazing. That has been our experience; however, others may experience differently. I'm being compensated to share our story with you in this video.
I’m able to just sit back a little more and watch Harrison be Harrison.

“When I first found out I was pregnant, of course I was excited, but I was also a little scared because there was a high possibility of my son having hemophilia because it runs in my family. My 7-year-old Liam doesn’t, but both my 5-year-old Harrison and 2-year-old Maverick have severe hemophilia A.
It can get a little hectic keeping up with 3 kids and all their needs, especially when you add on managing treatment plans and infusion schedules for the 2 younger boys. Being a hemophilia mom has helped me become the strong advocate that I am today to make sure that my boys are getting the care they need and deserve.
When choosing a treatment option for Harrison, we wanted to limit how frequently he was getting hurt without stopping him from being the funny, sweet kid who loves to sing and play T-ball.
I first heard about ALTUVIIIO at a conference. At the time, Harrison was treating with prophylaxis 3 times a week and supplementing with factor for breakthrough bleeds. We had a detailed conversation with his hematologist about the benefits of ALTUVIIIO and how it works, as well as the most common side effects. I was interested in switching Harrison to ALTUVIIIO mainly because of the longer half-life and proven bleed protection with fewer infusions.
ALTUVIIIO, with its once-weekly dosing and track record of effective bleed protection, is the right fit for Harrison and our family. Since starting ALTUVIIIO in 2023, he hasn’t had any breakthrough bleeding—which has been amazing. Now, I’m able to send Harrison off to school knowing that he is better protected.”
